WATER/SEWER SERVICES

TOWN OF BROOKNEAL

All accounts for water and sewer in the Town of Brookneal must be activated in person.  A valid picture I.D. is required for service.

To set-up a new water/sewer account, a $35.00 connection fee will be charged. For those customers transferring from one property to another there is a $25.00 fee.  Neither of these fees is refundable.

The current minimum monthly charge for water is $21.50.   This is based on consumption of up to 2,000 gallons per month.  Any amount over 2,000 gallons is charged at the rate of $0.68 per 100 gallons or $6.80 per 1000 gallons.

The current minimum monthly charge for sewer is $9.50.  This is based on water consumption of up to 4,000 gallons per month.  Any amount over 4,000 gallons is charged at the rate of $0.27 per 100 gallons or $2.66 per 1000 gallons.  

Water bills are mailed the first of each month with meter readings on the 19^th/20^th of the previous month.  The bills are due by the 15^th of the month and a 10% penalty is applied after the 15^th.

After the penalty is applied, a late notice will be mailed to those customers that have not paid indicating the final date for payment to avoid disconnection.  If payments are received after 5:00 p.m. on the last day to pay, your unpaid balance along with a $50.00 reconnection fee must be paid before service can be reconnected.  There will no extensions for late payment.  (Please note that the cut off date will vary from month to month.  It is the customers responsibility to ensure that the payment is received in the town office on time)

If you move out of town, you will need to contact our office and inform the water department of your new address and when the water service should be disconnected.  Charges for water and sewer used to the date of disconnection will be the responsibility of the account holder.  You will still be responsible for the bill even if you are not residing at the residence until you have contacted the town and had services discontinued.

Payments can be made in our office during normal business hours.   If this is inconvenient, payments can be mailed to: Town of Brookneal , P. O. Box 450 , Brookneal , VA 24528 .  The Town also provides a drop slot on the front door of the Town Hall for payments after hours.
