MINUTES OF THE BROOKNEAL TOWN COUNCIL

5:00 PM – A special meeting was called by Clerk/Treasurer Bobbie Waller for the purpose of awarding the contracts for the Phase II Water Line Improvements project and the downtown revitalization streetscape project.

 

The municipal government of the Town of Brookneal met with the following members present:

 

Phyllis Campbell, Mayor

James Nowlin, Vice Mayor

Robert Jean, Tracy Meisenbach and Kenneth Jennings, Council Members

Bobbie Waller, Clerk/Treasurer

Mike Crews, Public Works Director

 

 

AWARD CONTRACT FOR PHASE II WATER LINE IMPROVEMENTS

 

Public Works Director Mike Crews explained that the Phase II Water Line Improvements project would include new water lines for Main Street, Smith Street, and the bore under the railroad tracks to Cook Avenue.  Mr. Jason Clark of WW Associates was in attendance to explain the contract award.  His recommendation was that the Town accept Base Bid Items Nos. 1,2, and 3 in order from Fielder’s Choice Enterprises, Inc., as prescribed in the Basis of Bid in the total amount of $776,800 contingent upon fund availability.  He said their references had been checked.  Upon motion by Robert Jean, seconded by James Nowlin, and unanimously carried, the Council awarded the contract for the Phase II Water Line Improvements project to Fielder’s Choice Enterprises, Inc. for bid items Nos. 1,2, and 3 in the amount of $776,800.00.

 

 

AWARD CONTRACT FOR DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION STREETSCAPE PROJECT

 

Mr. Jason Clark of WW Associates explained the contract award.  His recommendation was that the Town accept Base Bid Item Nos. 1 and 2 from J. Harman Saunders Construction, Inc. as prescribed in the Basis of Bid for a total contract amount of $276,455.00.  He said their references had been checked.  He said WW was also recommending a 60 day calendar extension to the contractor’s substantial completion date to alleviate his concerns for sequencing with the Phase II waterline contractor.  Upon motion by James Nowlin, seconded by Tracy Meisenbach, and unanimously carried, the Council awarded the contract for the downtown revitalization streetscape project to J. Harman Saunders for bid items No. 1 and 2 in the amount of $276,455.00.

ADJOURNMENT

Upon motion from Kenneth Jennings, seconded by James Nowlin, and unanimously carried, Mayor Campbell announced that the August 26, 2010, called Council meeting was adjourned.
